Pacific Gas and Electric Company announced a significant jump in electricity needed for new data centers, projecting about 8.7 gigawatts of demand over the next 10 years, up from 5.5 gigawatts in 2024. PG&E estimates every 1,000 megawatts of new electric demand from data centers could decrease monthly electric bills by 1%-2% in the long term. The company is working on 18 new data center projects totaling approximately 1.4 gigawatts, expected to begin operations between 2026 and 2030, primarily in Silicon Valley.
